The Shawnee Mission East Lancers will take on the Staley Falcons at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Shawnee Mission East has five straight wins, Staley has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.
On Thursday, Shawnee Mission East made easy work of Shawnee Mission North and carried off a 3-0 victory.
Shawnee Mission East walked away with the win (and looked especially good in the third set). Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-16, 25-18, 25-14.
Meanwhile, it was a Battle of the Birds when Staley challenged Liberty North on Thursday. The Falcons took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Eagles.
While Staley ultimately came up short, they really made Liberty North work, particularly in the third set. The match finished with set scores of 25-21, 20-25, 27-25, 25-21.
Shawnee Mission East will have to keep a close watch on Mia Brenner and Madi Brewer, a pair of players who had a big impact on Staley's prior game. Brenner had 16 digs and four assists, while Brewer had 13 digs and one assist. Brenner has been hot, having posted 11 or more digs the last six times she's played.
Staley's defeat dropped their record down to 13-16. As for Shawnee Mission East, their victory bumped their record up to 18-9.
Shawnee Mission East couldn't quite get it done against Staley in their previous meeting back in September of 2024 as they fell 2-0. Can the Lancers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
