The Pueblo East Eagles struggled with threes on Saturday (the Pine Creek Eagles had six more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Pueblo East took a serious blow against Pine Creek, falling 66-38. While losing is never fun, Pueblo East can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 265th, while Pine Creek is ranked 79th).
Several Eagles players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ramon Venegas, who scored eight points. Maddox Villafon was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with six rebounds.
Even though they lost, Pueblo East were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Blake Marshall was his usual excellent self, going 6 for 11 from beyond the arc en route to 34 points and 0 assists for Pine Creek. That makes it six consecutive games in which Marshall has scored at least 25% of Pine Creek's points. Another player making a difference was Luke Wright, who scored 19 points.
Pueblo East has not been sharp recently, as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-7 record this season. As for Pine Creek, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-1.
Pueblo East and Mitchell will face off at 7:30 p.m. on December 18th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Mitchell is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. Pine Creek and Pueblo West will face off at 4:30 p.m. on December 18th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Pueblo West focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Saturday.
