Softball Recap: Howard Sets Scoring Season-High Against Oakland Mills

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Howard). They put the hurt on the Oakland Mills Scorpions with a sharp 18-1 victory on Tuesday. The win continues a trend for the Lions in their matchups with the Scorpions: they've now won seven in a row.

Olivia Coleman made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single hit in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.

In other batting news, Hadley Coleman and Lauren Moore did most of the damage at the plate: Hadley scored four runs while going 3-for-4, while Moore scored two runs while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. Coleman is also on a roll when it comes to doubles, as she's now hit two or more in each of the last three games she's played. Aila Claypool was another key player, scoring three runs while going 2-for-2.

Howard was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .700. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .350 or higher in seven consecutive matches.

Howard pushed their record up to 6-1-1 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.0 runs over those games. As for Oakland Mills, they are on an 11-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-6.

Coincidentally, Howard and Oakland Mills will both be playing Reservoir the next time they take the field. The Lions will host the 'Gators at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, while the Scorpions will head out to face them at 4:00 p.m. on the 22nd.
