Football Recap: Laville Skates Past Whiting with Ease

LaVille extended their winning streak to three on Friday, bumping them up to 5-4. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Whiting Oilers 70-7. The result was nothing new for the Lancers, who have now won four games by 28 points or more so far this season.

Brayden Schwitz continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, throwing for 157 yards and six TDs on only 12 passes. LaVille is undefeated when Schwitz posts three or more passing touchdowns, but 1-4 otherwise. Cole Stafford helped Schwitz out on the ground, rushing for 101 yards on only eight carries, while also picking up 37 receiving yards and one touchdown.

LaVille was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 249 rushing yards. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 96.3 rushing yards per game earlier this season, but in their last five contests they've averaged 211.3.

Special teams also deserves some recognition, posting 14 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Konnor Amor, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.

As for Whiting, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-7. While losing is never fun, they can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana football rankings (they are ranked 285th, while LaVille is ranked 141st).

Despite the loss, Whiting still got an impressive performance from Demetrio Lopez, who rushed for 139 yards and one score. Lopez was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 68 yards.

LaVille and Whiting are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Lancers will venture away from home to square off against Culver Community at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Whiting, they will host Bremen at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
