The Alleghany Cougars will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Floyd County Buffaloes at 7:00 p.m. Alleghany will be looking to keep their five-game home win streak (dating back to last season) alive.
Alleghany can now show off seven landslide victories after their most recent contest on Friday. They blew past James River 57-0 on the road. Given Alleghany's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia football rankings (they are ranked 76th, while James River is ranked 283rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Floyd County was beaten by Glenvar 49-15 on Friday. Floyd County has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite the loss, Floyd County saw an underclassman step up: Sam Phillips rushed for 116 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 155 yards and a touchdown.
Alleghany's win lifted them to 8-1 while Floyd County's loss dropped them down to 3-6.
Everything went Alleghany's way against Floyd County in their previous meeting back in October of 2022 as Alleghany made off with a 28-6 victory. Does Alleghany have another victory up their sleeve, or will Floyd County turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
