The Villa Madonna Vikings will head out on the road to take on the Bishop Brossart Mustangs at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Villa Madonna took a loss when they played away from home last Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Holmes with a sharp 15-2 win. The result was nothing new for the Vikings, who have now won four matchups by eight runs or more so far this season.

Cam Kratzer made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 12 over 4.1 innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Villa Madonna got a big performance out of Rosemary Rice, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three RBI and two runs. Kate Gibbs also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen bases of the season.
Villa Madonna was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .391. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive contests.
While Bishop Brossart didn't have the best season last year (they finished 12-19), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Scott 11-10. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Mustangs have posted against the Eagles since April 22, 2021.
Anna Bezold spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and five unearned) runs on 14 hits.
On the hitting side, Leah Robinson was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Rachel Shewmaker was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs.
Villa Madonna's record is now 6-4. As for Bishop Brossart, their record now sits at 12-3-1.
Bishop Brossart's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Monday. Villa Madonna has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.4 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Bishop Brossart, though, as they've been averaging only 3.1 strikeouts. Will Villa Madonna keep running through batters, or will the Mustangs buck the trend?
Villa Madonna beat Bishop Brossart 10-7 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Will the Vikings repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
