The El Capitan Vaqueros will face off against the Helix Highlanders at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
El Capitan is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Santana just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Thursday. They took an 8-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Sultans.
El Capitan saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gabrielle Garcia, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Helix entered their tilt with El Cajon Valley on Friday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They never let the Braves get on the board and left with an 18-0 victory. Considering the Highlanders have won 11 contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Katelyn Woodland tossed a big game, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Helix got a massive performance out of Ta'Tiannah Wright, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, seven RBI, and four runs. Wright continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was LaNiah Broom, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three doubles, four RBI, and two runs.
Helix hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in 11 consecutive games.
Helix pushed their record up to 13-5 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.3 runs over those games. As for El Capitan, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-12.
El Capitan came out on top in a nail-biter against Helix in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, sneaking past 5-4. Do the Vaqueros have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Highlanders turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
