This season hasn't been kind to the Hug Hawks, who are still winless after their sixth match. They were the victim of a tough 57-34 loss at the hands of Dayton on Saturday. The match was up for grabs at halftime, but sadly Hug struggled afterwards.
When it comes to explaining why Hug lost, one person who can't be blamed is Karen Salgado. Despite the final result, she scored 14 points. Another player making a difference was Precious Palaita, who scored eight points.
Dayton was led to victory by Ayisha Agee and Kennidi Smith. Agee scored 11 points along with seven rebounds and seven steals, while Smith dropped a double-double on 20 points and 14 rebounds. Agee continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played.
Hug's defeat was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 0-6. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 24.5 points per game. As for Dayton, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hug will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on McQueen at 11:30 a.m. on December 27th. Dayton will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Fernley at 6:00 p.m. on January 5, 2024.
