The Sunnyside Wildcats had already proven themselves in the regular season, and didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They took down Redwood 39-21 on Friday. The win was familiar territory for Sunnyside who now have nine in a row.
Tanner Wilson continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 121 yards and two touchdowns on only eight carries, while also throwing for 236 yards and two touchdowns while completing 81% of his passes. Wilson really tore up the turf during one magnificent 80-yard run. The team also got some help courtesy of Malachi Barnes, who picked up 55 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Despite the defeat, Redwood saw an underclassman step up: Jimmie Burk rushed for 110 yards and a touchdown.
Sunnyside has yet to lose a game at home this season, leaving them with a 10-2 record. They've been dominating during the contests in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 27.45 points. As for Redwood, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-5.
Sunnyside will head out on the road to face off against Lemoore at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Lemoore focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up five on Friday. Redwood does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
