For the first time this season, Highland will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against the Williams Field Black Hawks at 6:00 p.m. Highland is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.
Highland will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Friday, then bounced right back against Highlands Ranch on Saturday. Highland blew past Highlands Ranch 10-2. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Hawks as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Peyton Gill looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk).
On the hitting side, Beau Tarwater was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one triple, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Gage Tarwater, who scored two runs while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Williams Field faced Hamilton in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. Williams Field narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Hamilton 4-3.
Carson Huber tossed a big game, tossing 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had over his last seven contests.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Malcom Harrison, who went 2-for-3 with one triple and two RBI. That's the most hits he has posted over his last 13 games. Another player making a difference was Asher Landry, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Williams Field's victory bumped their record up to 9-4. As for Highland, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
Highland was able to grind out a solid win over Williams Field in their previous matchup back in March of 2021, winning 5-2. Will Highland repeat their success, or does Williams Field has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
