Marshfield and Plymouth North are an even 4-4 against one another since June of 2018, but likely not for long. The Rams will be playing at home against the Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Marshfield is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.8 runs per game this season.
On Thursday, Marshfield needed a bit of extra time to put away Weymouth. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over the Wildcats. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Rams have posted since June 3, 2024.
Sofia Blanco spent all ten innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on six hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Marshfield saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Madison Adams, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.
Pembroke hit Plymouth North with a five-run sixth inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Eagles lost 13-7 to the Titans. Eagles fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Titans since on Monday.
Lydia Canniff was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Canniff was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Cora Gervasi made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That double marked the first that she has hit this season. Sadie Levenson was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run.
Marshfield's win bumped their record up to 6-2. As for Plymouth North, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-8.
Plymouth North's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Marshfield has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .464. It's a different story for Plymouth North, though, as they've only averaged .346. Will they be able to contain Marshfield's hitters?
Marshfield skirted past Plymouth North 8-7 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Do the Rams have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
