Baseball Recap: Maryvale Victorious

Maryvale proved they can win big last Tuesday (they won by 21) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out the Camelback Spartans 4-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Panthers have posted since March 29, 2024.

Sebastian Gonzalez was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Maryvale is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 3-6 otherwise. Gonzalez was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 3-for-3. That's the most hits he has posted since back in February.

In other batting news, Ariel Garcia was excellent, scoring a run and stealing three bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Angel Morales was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4.

Maryvale's record is now 5-7. As for Camelback, their defeat was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-14.

Looking ahead, Maryvale will welcome Tempe at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. As for Camelback, they will venture away from home to take on Boulder Creek at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The Spartans are facing the Jaguars at the right time seeing as the Jaguars are stuck on a four-game losing streak.
