Softball Recap: Grapevine Extends Winning Streak to Eight

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Grapevine walked away with it. Everything went their way against the Del Valle Conquistadores on Thursday as they made off with a 13-1 win. Considering the Mustangs have won 13 contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Bella MacMahon tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out six over six innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Grace Kelley was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, four runs, and three RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in February. Gisele Rayngay was another key player, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with one home run and four RBI.

Grapevine always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .543. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Del Valle only posted an OBP of .174.

The victory (which was Grapevine's eighth in a row) raised their record to 20-10. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Del Valle, their defeat dropped their record down to 25-13-2.

Grapevine will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Conquistadores: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 1:00 p.m. on Friday.
