The St. John Woodchucks had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.5 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Thursday. They enjoyed a cozy 70-51 victory over Bishop Ryan. Given St. John's advantage in MaxPreps' North Dakota basketball rankings (they are ranked 24th, while Bishop Ryan is ranked 93rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Alani Morin continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a triple-double on 17 points, 12 rebounds, and ten assists. Morin is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kennley Davis, who scored 17 points along with three steals.
St. John pushed their record up to 8-2 with that victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.0 points per game. As for Bishop Ryan, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-6.
St. John will play host again and welcome Midway/Minto, where tip off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Midway/Minto is coming into the game hot, having won their last three games. As for Bishop Ryan, they will square off against Berthold at TBD on Tuesday.
