Beech Grove and Indianapolis Lutheran are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2015, but likely not for long. The Hornets will head out on the road to square off against the Saints at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Beech Grove is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.3 runs per game this season.
Beech Grove is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 17 runs last Tuesday, they were much more limited against Southport on Friday. They came up short against the Cardinals, falling 9-2. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Mylee Boling made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Meanwhile, Indianapolis Lutheran hadn't done well against Frankton recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Saints' pitcher stepped up to hand the Eagles a 4-0 shutout.
Frankton's batters probably weren't too happy with Gracie Boggs, who pitched a no hitter and racked up nine Ks (she gave up two walks). Boggs has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Indianapolis Lutheran let Alena Hall and Amelia Hughes run wild. Hall went 2-for-3 with two runs and one double, while Hughes went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs.
Indianapolis Lutheran's victory bumped their record up to 12-6. As for Beech Grove, they moved to 10-10-1 with that loss, which also ended their five-game winning streak.
Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Beech Grove hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .318. However, it's not like Indianapolis Lutheran struggles in that department as they've averaged .320. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Beech Grove's way against Indianapolis Lutheran when the teams last played back in May of 2024, as Beech Grove made off with an 11-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hornets since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
