Two dominant backs in Ashten Emory and Taji Atkins are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Rockwall Yellowjackets will head out on the road to face off against the Westfield Mustangs at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Rockwall comes in on ten and Westfield on nine.
With a playoff game on the line, Rockwall rose to the challenge on Saturday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Indians 46-43. Given Rockwall's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked tenth, while Waxahachie is ranked 40th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Emory, who rushed for 270 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 8.4 yards per carry. Emory is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Mason Marshall, who rushed for 14 yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, even though Klein Cain scored an imposing 41 points on Friday, Westfield still came out on top. Westfield enjoyed a cozy 55-41 victory over Klein Cain.
Atkins was his usual excellent self, rushing for 403 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 16.1 yards per carry. Atkins really tore up the turf during one magnificent 80-yard run. Miles Dent also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Their wins bumped Rockwall to 11-1 and Waxahachie to 9-3.
Rockwall came up short against Westfield in their previous matchup back in November of 2014, falling 43-38. Thankfully for Rockwall, Dillon Sterling-cole (who threw for 224 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 10.7 yards per attempt, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
