Mid-Continent recap Oct. 16, 2012
Norton extended the longest winning streak in Mid-Continent this week by beating Minneapolis, 42-20. The victory was the fourth in a row for the Bluejays.
Norton took down the Lions 42-20 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Ellis's dynamic duo of Eli Lohrmeyer and Jared Mick proved tough for St. Francis to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Lohrmeyer threw for 107 yards and one touchdown and Mick had 50 yards receiving. Cadyn McCoy helped Ellis' passing attack out by catching two balls for 40 yards.
Trevor Axelson was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 15 carries, he ran for 163 yards as Plainville fell to the Indians. Teammate Harrison Gilliland added to the ground attack by rushing for 114 yards.
Thanks to the talents of Hadley Gillum and Axelson the Cardinals have been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Gillum leads the league in passing with 427 yards, while Axelson has rushed for 779 yards this season. Phillipsburg's Seth Derr leads the league in receiving yards with 276 on six catches.
Smith Center made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 3,809 from 5,007. The advance stemmed from a 23-22 victory over Plainville last week.
