The Bulkeley Bulldogs will head out to challenge the Wilcox RVT Wildcats at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. Bulkeley has given up an average of 23 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Bulkeley couldn't beat Civic Leadership on Wednesday even though they stacked seven runs on them in the fourth inning. The Bulldogs came up short against the Eagles, falling 25-11.
Bulkeley saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Arlianis Lopez, who went 1-for-2 with four stolen bases and three runs.
Meanwhile, Wilcox RVT got themselves on the board against Wright Tech on Wednesday, but Wright Tech never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Warriors with a sharp 12-0 win. Considering the Wildcats have won 13 matches by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Chloe Enger made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 15 over six innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple.
In other batting news, Ashley Stimpson was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs and one stolen base. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Katelyn Ouellette, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
Wilcox RVT pushed their record up to 14-1 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Bulkeley, their loss dropped their record down to 2-5.
Thursday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Bulkeley has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .529. However, it's not like Wilcox RVT struggles in that department as they've averaged .583. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
