The Classical Academy extended the longest winning streak in 3A Southern this week by beating Discovery Canyon, 20-15. The win marks fifth in a row for the the Titans.
The Classical Academy moved up to 38 from 77 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. A 20-15 win over the Thunder helped David Bervig's team improve its standing.
The Titans' dynamic duo of Jantzen Ryals and Joey Trese proved tough for Discovery Canyon to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Ryals threw for 189 yards and three touchdowns and Trese had 132 yards receiving. Alex Willis helped The Classical Academy's passing attack out by catching four balls for 32 yards.
Demtrius Graves was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 162 yards on 24 carries as Harrison beat Shawn Mitchell's team. Nicholas Jacquez also contributed to the rushing game with 32 yards on the ground.
Kurt Rode provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Pueblo East defeated Wasson. He completed 16 passes for 262 yards and one touchdown and also ran for 38 yards. Rode's favorite target this week was Felix Mestas, who caught eight passes for 132 yards.
The Eagles' Rode and Mestas have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 3A Southern in both passing and receiving yards. Rode has thrown for 1099 yards this season, while Mestas, a 6-foot-0 receiver, has 22 catches for 470 yards. Nikko Valdez from Pueblo Central leads the league in rushing with 561 yards.
Two of the top units in the league will face off this week when the Titans take on the Panthers. The Classical Academy's offense has racked up 188 points this season, earning them the top spot in the league, while Harrison has allowed only 142 on the year.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Pueblo East takes on the Wildcats. David Ramirez's team is currently in second, while Pueblo Central is in fourth.
Pueblo County took down Englewood 54-8 last week, the largest margin of any game. Lane Lanier ran for 150 yards in the win.
