The Greeneville Greene Devils will head out on the road to face off against the Grainger Grizzlies at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Greeneville will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
Greeneville lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Volunteer, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Tuesday's contest. The Greene Devils never let the Falcons get on the board and left with a 6-0 win on Tuesday. The Greene Devils not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 26th (when they won 8-1).
Brynlee Jones was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out ten over seven innings pitched. Jones was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Baylee Ramsey, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs and one double. Another player making a difference was Kaley Garland, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.
Meanwhile, it was close, but on Tuesday Grainger sidestepped Cherokee for a 4-2 victory. The Grizzlies haven't had any issues with the Chiefs recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Shylo Williford spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on four hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, McKinley Mills was excellent, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Grace Lincoln also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Greeneville's record now sits at 8-12-1. As for Grainger, the victory got them back to even at 7-7.
Grainger's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Greeneville hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .321. It's a different story for Grainger, though, as they've only averaged .259. Will they be able to contain Greeneville's hitters?
Greeneville suffered a grim 6-0 defeat to Grainger in their previous meeting two weeks ago. Can the Greene Devils avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
