On Thursday, St. Brendan opened the new year with a less-than-successful 51-43 defeat to Lehigh. St. Brendan has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Loss or not, St. Brendan got some senior leadership from Jaden Castro and Gianna Vindigni. Castro scored 17 points, while Vindigni. scored 15 points.
Lehigh's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Rianne Smith, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which Smith has scored at least a third of Lehigh's points. Faith Plummer was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with two steals.
St. Brendan has not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-6 record this season. As for Lehigh, their victory bumped their record up to 9-3.
St. Brendan won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Cypress Lake at 12:20 p.m. on January 5th. Cypress Lake is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak. As for Lehigh, Lehigh and Naples will face off at 5:20 p.m. on January 5th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday.
