The Regents Lions will head out to face off against the Pine Grove Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Regents will be looking to extend their current 14-game winning streak.
If Regents beats Pine Grove with ten runs on Monday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. The Lions walked away with a 10-6 victory over Indianola Academy on Thursday.
Hayes Leach and Sutton Gore were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Leach tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Gore struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. At bat, Leach went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base, while Gore went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Will Jones and Jayce Wright did most of the damage at the plate: Jones went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double, while Wright went 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Zayden Casey, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, Pine Grove unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak on Saturday. They took a 10-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of Baldwyn.
Talen Wilkerson was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double. Another player making a difference was Ayden Jones, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
Pine Grove's defeat dropped their record down to 14-10. As for Regents, their record now sits at 16-4.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Regents hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .361. However, it's not like Pine Grove struggles in that department as they've averaged .329. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Regents got the 'W' in their previous meeting two weeks ago against Pine Grove by a conclusive 12-4 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lions since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
