Baseball Recap: Oakland Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Oakland, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Wednesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Rockvale on Friday, sneaking past 3-2. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Asher Evans and Braxton Greever made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Evans pitched two innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. Meanwhile, Greever didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave Evans a new career-high in strikeouts (three). At the plate, Evans scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2, while Greever got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Caden Wayman, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Oakland always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .520. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Oakland pushed their record up to 8-11-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 3.25 runs across that stretch. As for Rockvale, their loss dropped their record down to 4-10.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Oakland will host Smyrna at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Rockvale, they will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Wilson Central at 12:00 p.m. The Wildcats will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something Rockvale surely won't give up without a fight.
