St. Mary's Academy came into Wednesday's match looking for another win against Prospect Ridge Academy, but Genevieve Forsman wouldn't allow it. The Miners came out on top against the Wildcats by a score of 3-1 on Wednesday for which the team can thank Forsman, who had 15 digs and two aces. She is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 15 or more in each of the last five games she's played.
The win didn't come easy: St. Mary's Academy scored at least 20 points in every set. The match finished with set scores of 25-21, 24-26, 25-21, 25-20.
Meanwhile, The Academy didn't have quite enough to beat Prairie View on Saturday and fell 3-2.
The Academy wouldn't go down easily and took Prairie View into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking eight-point loss. The final score came out to 23-25, 25-12, 25-27, 25-17, 15-7.
Despite the loss, The Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Honor Montoya had 15 digs. Those 15 digs set a new season-high mark for Montoya.
The Academy has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season. As for Prospect Ridge Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 12-1.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Thursday's matchup: Prospect Ridge Academy has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 14.6 aces per game. However, it's not like The Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.7 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Prospect Ridge Academy couldn't quite get it done against The Academy in their previous matchup back in October of 2024 as they fell 3-1. Can the Miners avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
