Softball Recap: Mt. Zion Wins Going Away Against Pleasant Plains

Mt. Zion barely beat Pleasant Plains the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Braves put the hurt on the Cardinals with a sharp 7-1 victory on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Braves, who have now won 11 games by six runs or more so far this season.

Ella Fink made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs.

In other batting news, Rachel Besser was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since April 1st. Another player making a difference was Addy Rotz, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Mt. Zion was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .407. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .407 or higher in three consecutive contests.

Mt. Zion is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.9 runs on average over those games. As for Pleasant Plains, with the defeat, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 11-5-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mt. Zion will take on Decatur Eisenhower at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Braves are facing the Panthers at the right time seeing as the Panthers are stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Pleasant Plains, they will head out to face off against Williamsville at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
