Malad is a perfect 10-0 against Soda Springs since May of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Dragons will be playing in front of their home fans against the Cardinals at 4:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Malad's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. Everything went their way against West Side as they made off with a 22-0 win. The Dragons are really starting to get used to good results now that the team has won 12 straight.
Riglee Peterson made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Aubrey Shulz was a standout: she went 4-for-5 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted over her last 11 games. Brylee Oglesbee was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
Malad kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in 12 consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Soda Springs hadn't done well against Declo recently (they were 0-6 in their previous six matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Cardinals put the hurt on the Hornets with a sharp 16-6 victory. The win was familiar territory for the Cardinals, who have now won three matchups in a row.
Emily Thornock and Brynlee Hemmert did most of the damage at the plate: Thornock went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Hemmert went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Aiyana Davis, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs.
Malad pushed their record up to 21-2 with the victory, which was their 16th straight on the road dating back to last season. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.0 runs over those games. As for Soda Springs, they now have a winning record of 9-8.
Soda Springs' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Malad has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 12.3 hits per game. It's a different story for Soda Springs, though, as they've been averaging 12.1 hits. Given Malad's sizable advantage in that area, the Cardinals will need to find a way to close that gap.
Malad took their victory against Soda Springs in their previous meeting last Monday by a conclusive 13-0 score. Do the Dragons have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cardinals turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
