The Oneonta Yellowjackets will venture away from home to face off against the Maine-Endwell Spartans at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Oneonta is headed into the match having just posted their closest win since April 16, 2024 on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 15-13 victory over Bainbridge-Guilford.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Maine-Endwell, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They never let Windsor Central get on the board and left with a 12-0 win on Friday. The Spartans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three contests by six runs or more this season.
Tessa L'Amoreaux and Olivia Virgil made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, L'Amoreaux didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Virgil tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. L'Amoreaux has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. At the plate, L'Amoreaux went 2-for-5 with three runs and one RBI, while Virgil went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That double marked the first that Virgil has hit this season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kaylee Hurba, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. She also hit a triple, marking her first of the season. Isabel Hunter was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
Maine-Endwell hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive games.
Maine-Endwell pushed their record up to 4-2 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.4 runs over those games. As for Oneonta, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.
Oneonta suffered a grim 12-0 defeat to Maine-Endwell when the teams last played back in May of 2021. Can the Yellowjackets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
