Baseball Recap: Phoebus' Losing Streak Snapped at Four Games

Phoebus came into Monday's matchup having lost four straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They put the hurt on the Heritage Hurricanes with a sharp 11-4 win on Monday. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 21-7 on April 3rd.

Jacob Moore was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out 11 batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Those 11 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. He has become a key player for Phoebus: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 1-7 otherwise.

In other batting news, Phoebus let Bryce Gillies and Josiah (Beaux) Moore run wild. Gillies went 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, two doubles, and two RBI, while Moore got on base in three of his four plate appearances with four stolen bases and three runs. Those four stolen bases gave Moore a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Aiden Blunt, who went 1-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

Phoebus picked up their first home victory, bumping their record up to 3-8. As for Heritage, their defeat was their 18th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-13.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Phoebus will venture away from home to challenge Kecoughtan at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Phantoms are facing the Warriors at the right time seeing as the Warriors are stuck on an 11-game losing streak. As for Heritage, they will head out to square off against Hampton at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Crabbers will roll in looking for their 12th straight win, something the Hurricanes surely won't give up without a fight.
