Baseball Recap: Guilford Wins Going Away Against Belvidere North

Guilford hadn't done well against Belvidere North recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Vikings put the hurt on the Blue Thunder with a sharp 20-13 win. The Vikings might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by seven runs or more this season.

Maddux Lee made a big impact no matter where he played. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his six plate appearances with two RBI and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Khaliel White, who got on base in five of his six plate appearances with five RBI, three runs, and one double. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was James Versino, who got on base in four of his six plate appearances with three runs and two RBI.

Guilford moved to 11-12 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Belvidere North, they now have a losing record of 12-13.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Guilford will face off against Huntley at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Belvidere North, they will venture away from home to challenge Boylan Catholic at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
