Blum and Morgan are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2017, but not for long. The Blum Bobcats will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Morgan Eagles at 7:30 p.m. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Blum has struggled recently with 17 losses in a row, while Morgan will arrive with 12 straight victories.
Blum pushed their score all the way to 55 last Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 63-55 hit to the loss column at the hands of Meridian.
Meanwhile, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Morgan beat Iredell 58-54 on Tuesday.
Morgan's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Adrian Alonzo led the charge by scoring 30 points. That makes it four consecutive games in which Alonzo has scored at least a third of Morgan's points. Another player making a difference was Mark Anthony Garcia, who scored 18 points along with eight rebounds and four steals.
Blum dropped their record down to 0-16 with that loss, which was their third straight at home. As for Morgan, their victory bumped their record up to 18-1.
Blum ended up a good deal behind Morgan when the teams last played on January 2nd, losing 71-53. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Morgan's Zach Mitchell, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 21 rebounds. Now that Blum knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
