Spanish Fort has gone a perfect 4-0 against Auburn recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. Spanish Fort will be taking part in a tournament against Auburn at 9:00 a.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Spanish Fort 2.1, Auburn 3.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Auburn will be up against a hot Spanish Fort team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. Spanish Fort's pitchers stepped up to hand Bryant a 5-0 shutout on Friday.
Anne Thomas Luke made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit over six innings pitched. What's more, she gave up only zero walks, the fewest she's had since back in May of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Delaney Duncan, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Madison Griffith, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Auburn, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Benjamin Russell on Thursday, sneaking past 3-1. The Tigers haven't had any issues with the Wildcats recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.
Lily Brewer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up 13 Ks. Those 13 strikeouts gave her a new career-high.
On the hitting side, Abigail Helms was incredible, going 1-for-2 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to home runs, as she's now launched at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Daley Alsobrook was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Auburn pushed their record up to 12-4 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Spanish Fort, their win bumped their record up to 22-5.
Everything went Spanish Fort's way against Auburn in their previous meeting back in February of 2022, as Spanish Fort made off with a 14-5 victory. Does Spanish Fort have another victory up their sleeve, or will Auburn turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
