Basketball Recap: Columbus East Falls Despite Big Games from Keaton Lawson and Carter Patterson

Columbus East lost against East Central back in March of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Columbus East Olympians fell to the East Central Trojans 53-47. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Olympians came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 65th, while the Trojans are ranked 295th).

Columbus East's loss came despite strong showings from Carter Patterson and Keaton Lawson. Patterson went 7 for 14 on his way to 18 points along with five boards and three steals, while Lawson went 6 of 14 en route to 12 points in addition to eight rebounds and six assists. Patterson has been hot recently, having posted 16 or more points the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Judah Lewis, who posted eight points.

Even though they lost, Columbus East smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as East Central only pulled down four offensive boards.

East Central got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Peyton Hofer out in front who went 6 of 8 en route to 17 points. Another player making a difference was Liam Rogers, who earned ten points and five assists.

Columbus East has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-6 record this season. As for East Central, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-9.

Columbus East has already played their next match, a 56-48 win against Bloomington North on the 1st. As for East Central, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 53-36 victory against Rushville on the 1st.
