Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for the Evansville Central Bears, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They took a 52-46 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Huskies. Evansville Central was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Huskies apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.
Evansville Central's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Avery Kelley, who scored 14 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Kelley has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Madalynn Shirley, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Evansville North to victory, but perhaps none more so than Maddy Knies, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten rebounds. Another player making a difference was Aliah Epps, who scored ten points.
Evansville Central's defeat dropped their record down to 20-6. As for Evansville North, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 16-10.
Evansville Central does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Evansville North and the Grizzly Cubs will face off at 4:00 p.m. on February 10th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Franklin Community presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Huskies in Indiana (the Grizzly Cubs are ranked sixth, while the Huskies are ranked 78th).
