The Smith Center Redmen will head out on the road to face off against the Superior Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Smith Center is no doubt hoping to put an end to a 13-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
Last Friday, Smith Center was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 48-43 to the Monarchs. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Smith Center in their matchups with the Monarchs: they've now lost eight in a row.
Meanwhile, Superior's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their 12th straight loss. They were the victim of a rough 60-35 loss at the hands of Thayer Central. Superior found out winning isn't easy when you don't work as a unit and post ten fewer assists than your opponent.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Colten Butler, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds and four steals. He is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Mason Korb, who scored ten points.
Smith Center's loss dropped their record down to 6-9. As for Superior, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-16.
Smith Center came up short against the Wildcats in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, falling 49-43. Thankfully for Smith Center, Ashton Grassmann (who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
