The Willow Glen Rams will head out to challenge the Overfelt Royals at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Overfelt took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Willow Glen, who comes in off a win.
Willow Glen proved they can win big on September 12th (they won by 45) and last Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They slipped by Christopher 21-20.
Willow Glen can attribute much of their success to Aiden Akery, who rushed for 86 yards and one touchdown, and also threw for 103 yards on 13 of 21 attempts. Zackary Papedis was in the mix too, providing the Rams with one score.
Willow Glen didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Christopher to a completion percentage of just 50%. The Rams weren't nearly as limited: they posted one of 61.9%.
Meanwhile, Overfelt played a tough matchup on Thursday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They came up short against Christopher, falling 28-6. The last quarter was a mere formality, since the game's final score was reached by the end of the third quarter.
Overfelt didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Ralou Hunter and Christopher Hanley. Hanley is also crushing it when it comes to total tackles: he's made at least six every time he's taken the field this season.
The win got Willow Glen back to even at 2-2. As for Overfelt, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 2-2.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Willow Glen has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 169.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Overfelt struggles in that department as they've been averaging 174.8 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Willow Glen didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Overfelt in their previous matchup back in September of 2023, but they still walked away with a 42-38 victory. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was the Royals' Gabriel Martinez, who threw for 165 yards and a pair of TDs on only 13 passes, and also punched in one touchdown. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be easier for the Rams to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
