Tanque Verde extended their winning streak to five on Saturday, bumping them up to 7-1-2. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured an 8-7 W against Rio Rico. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory Tanque Verde has posted since March 21, 2025.
Landon Walker made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. What's more, he posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2025. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, Tanque Verde let Ryan Ashcraft and Rocco Haggard run wild. Ashcraft got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Haggard went 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs. That home run marked the first that Ashcraft has launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Braden Guest, who went 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
Tanque Verde was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .467. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .414 or higher in three consecutive games.
As for Rio Rico, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 5-6. That's two games in a row now that they have lost by just one run.
On Rio Rico's side, Connor Switalski and Matthew Felix stepped up to the plate in a big way. Switalski went 3-for-4 with two RBI, while Felix went 2-for-3 with two runs and one double. Another player making a difference was Jesus Rodriguez, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI.
Looking ahead, Tanque Verde will be taking part in a tournament against Sahuarita at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday. As for Rio Rico, they will head out on the road to take on Sabino at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
