The Salida Spartans will be taking part in a tournament against the Olathe Pirates at 11:00 a.m. on Friday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Salida not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 12, 2024. They put the hurt on Mitchell with a sharp 14-4 win.

Scout Presley and Brody Hudson made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Presley tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Hudson pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. At the plate, Presley scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances, while Hudson got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases. Hudson is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season.
In other batting news, Canin Becker was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Hudson Fisher, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.
Salida always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .561. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mitchell only posted an OBP of .393.
Meanwhile, Olathe waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 5-4 W against the Miners. While the Pirates didn't have the best season last year (they finished 5-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Evan Eddy made a big impact no matter where he played. He pitched five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in May of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 1-for-3. Those stolen bases were his first of the season.
Eddy wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Bryce Good, who scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Olathe's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.6 runs over those games. As for Salida, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
Friday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Salida has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .482. However, it's not like Olathe struggles in that department as they've averaged .547. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Salida took their victory against Olathe when the teams last played back in March of 2023 by a conclusive 9-2. Will Salida repeat their success, or does Olathe has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
