Rolling Meadows is 1-9 against Buffalo Grove since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Mustangs will challenge the Bison at 4:45 p.m. Rolling Meadows is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.6 runs per game this season.
Rolling Meadows came out on top against Hoffman Estates on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run sixth inning. The Mustangs walked away with a 10-6 win over the Hawks. The victory continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Hawks: they've now won four in a row.
Luke Schneider was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out seven batters over 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and three runs.
In other batting news, Rolling Meadows let Ryan Schneider and Josh Rappa run wild. Schneider went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double, while Rappa went 1-for-3 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. Callum Paisley was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Rolling Meadows was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hoffman Estates only posted a batting average of .226.
Meanwhile, Buffalo Grove was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-3 heartbreaker at the hands of Evanston. That's two games in a row now that the Bison have lost by just one run.
Buffalo Grove also got a good showing from Brady Horvath, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Furthermore, Horvath didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in March.
On the hitting side, Jordan Dudek was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one run. Another player making a difference was Owen Erickson, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Buffalo Grove's loss dropped their record down to 4-11-2. As for Rolling Meadows, their record is now 14-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Rolling Meadows has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Buffalo Grove struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Rolling Meadows came up short against Buffalo Grove when the teams last played back in April of 2024, falling 7-2. Can the Mustangs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
