The Chapin Huskies will take on the Hanks Knights at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. Chapin has given up an average of 7.2 runs per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Chapin's tournament run continued when they took on Horizon on Friday. The Huskies lost 11-4 to the Scorpions. The Huskies haven't had much luck with the Scorpions recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.
Chapin saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nathan Hurtado, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.
While Hanks didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-19), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They put the hurt on Bowie with a sharp 15-3 victory on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Knights, who have now won five contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Raul Melendez was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Melendez was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI. Those two hits gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lorenzo Salcido, who went 3-for-4 with four runs, two triples, and three RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Meneses, who went 2-for-3 with three runs and one RBI.
Hanks kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in 11 consecutive games.
Hanks' win bumped their record up to 7-3-2. As for Chapin, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-7-1.
Chapin's speedy runners might be the difference in Saturday's matchup. The Huskies have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.6 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Hanks, though, as they've been averaging only 1.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Chapin continue to outrun the ball?
Chapin came up short against Hanks in their previous meeting back in March of 2025, falling 15-11. Can the Huskies avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
