The Catoctin Cougars fell victim to the Walkersville Lions''s stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They had to suffer through a rough 48-0 loss at the hands of the Lions. Catoctin has struggled against Walkersville recently, as their game on Friday was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.
Leading Walkersville to victory were Jordan Bennett and Da'marques Ross. Bennett rushed for 120 yards and three touchdowns on only 12 carries, while Ross rushed for 143 yards and three touchdowns on only 13 carries. Ross was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 51 yards.
Catoctin's defeat was their seventh straight at home (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 3-5. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 10-1 Frederick and 7-1 Mountain Ridge (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 74.3% over those games). As for Walkersville, their victory bumped their record up to 4-4.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Catoctin will take on Brunswick at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Walkersville, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Middletown at 6:30 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Maryland (Middletown is ranked 65th, while Walkersville is ranked 57th).
