The Rockledge Raiders struggled with assists on Wednesday (the Eau Gallie Commodores had eight more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Rockledge fell just short of Eau Gallie by a score of 24-21. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Rockledge has scored all season.
When it comes to explaining why Rockledge lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jaida Williams-Goins. Despite the final result, she scored 18 points along with nine steals. Williams-Goins hasn't dropped below 15 points for eight straight games.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Rockledge struggled to work together and finished the game with only an assist. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Leading Eau Gallie to victory were Avi Johnson and Alayna Lherisse. Johnson scored no points along with nine rebounds, while Lherisse scored 11 points along with six rebounds and three steals. That makes it eight consecutive games in which Lherisse has scored at least a third of Eau Gallie's points.
Rockledge's defeat dropped their record down to 5-11. As for Eau Gallie, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a massive bump to their 12-9 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Rockledge will take on Cocoa at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Cocoa presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Rockledge in Florida (Cocoa is ranked 148th, while Rockledge is ranked 432nd). As for Eau Gallie, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy at 7:00 p.m. on January 25th. Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
