The Fairmont Firebirds will be playing at home against the St. Vincent-St. Mary Fighting Irish at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Fairmont focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Wednesday.
Last Wednesday, Fairmont beat Miamisburg 43-34. Given Fairmont's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 85th, while Miamisburg is ranked 263rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Fairmont found their leader in underclassman Kaylah Thornton, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. Thornton is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played. Kenzie Roark was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
St. Vincent-St. Mary suffered their closest loss yet this season on Wednesday. They fell just short of Magnificat by a score of 53-51. St. Vincent-St. Mary has not had much luck with Magnificat recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
The victory makes it two in a row for Fairmont and bumps their season record up to 11-5. As for St. Vincent-St. Mary, their loss ended a eight-game streak of away wins and brought them to 12-3.
