After each having a week off, the Lakeside Panthers and the Statesboro Blue Devils will dust off their jerseys to square off against one another at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Lakeside is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.
Last Friday, Lakeside strolled past Glynn Academy with points to spare, taking the game 28-14. The Panthers pushed the score to 28-0 by the end of the third, a deficit the Terrors cut but never quite recovered from.
Lakeside got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Ty Jones out in front who rushed for 141 yards and a touchdown on only 12 carries, and also threw for 131 yards on only 11 passes. Jones' rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his fourth straight game with at least 101 rushing yards dating back to last season. Brandon Grissom also helped out as he racked up 100 rushing yards.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Statesboro). They snuck past Bradwell Institute with a 41-36 victory last Friday.
Beckham Jarrard had an outrageously good game as he threw for 224 yards and three touchdowns, and also picked up 63 receiving yards and a touchdown. He showed off some serious burst, cutting upfield on a catch for 63 yards. Statesboro also got a significant boost from Ty Chambers, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 106 yards.
Lakeside pushed their record up to 5-0 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. As for Statesboro, their record is now 2-3.
