The Meade County Green Waves will take on the North Oldham Mustangs at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Meade County has three straight wins, North Oldham has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Meade County is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They never let Waggener get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory on Wednesday. With that win, the Green Waves brought their scoring average up to 6.5 runs per game.
Tristan Cockerill made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Cockerill was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-2. That stolen base marked the first that he snagged this season.
In other batting news, Austyn Stansbury and Aidan Bratcher did most of the damage at the plate: Stansbury scored two runs while going 1-for-1, while Bratcher scored two runs while going 2-for-2. What's more, Bratcher posted two doubles, the most he's had since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of John Honaker, who scored a run and stole a base.
Meade County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .565. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .310 or higher in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, North Oldham faced Spencer County in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. North Oldham came up short against Spencer County, falling 16-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Mustangs have suffered since May 15, 2024.
Meade County pushed their record up to 5-1 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 9.0 runs this season. As for North Oldham, they now have a losing record of 3-4.
Meade County couldn't quite get it done against North Oldham in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 as they fell 7-4. Can Meade County avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
