Pima extended the longest winning streak in VI Section II (8 Man) this week by beating St. David, 66-26. This was the team's eighth consecutive win.
Valley Union suffered a letdown when it was bounced from the state Top 25 this week after beating Arizona School for the Deaf & Blind. The Blue Devils had been ranked 24th, but fell to 27.
Mesa Prep's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Nick Staloch threw for 265 and seven touchdowns and Paul Varner had 122 yards receiving. On the ground Varner chipped in 137 yards. Jackson Ventrella helped Mesa Prep's passing attack out by catching five balls for 78 yards.
Mesa Prep's Staloch and Ventrella have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Staloch has thrown for 1999 yards this season, while Ventrella has 57 catches for 909 yards. Duncan's Cale Merrell leads the league in rushing yards with 1838.
So far this year, JR Tessay has thrown for 1804 yards with 19 touchdowns and three interceptions.
Ventrella of the Amy Arnold's team's is a few catches away from breaking 1,000 yards for the season. He needs only 91 receiving yards in this week's game against Salome to get there.
Fort Thomas was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from ninth to sixth in the league. The Apaches beat Cibecue 66-22 earlier in the week.
