It was a good run, but the Kent Denver Sun Devils unfortunately witnessed the end of their ten-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell to Colorado Academy 80-76. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Saturday (74), Kent Denver still had to take the loss.
Kent Denver lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Caleb Fay, who scored 16 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Fay is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Alex Padalino was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with two steals.
Even though they lost, Kent Denver smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Colorado Academy only pulled down five offensive rebounds.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Colorado Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Simeon Woldeyohannes, who scored 22 points along with seven assists and six rebounds. That's the first time this season that Woldeyohannes scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Jason Bratis, who scored 20 points along with seven rebounds.
Kent Denver's loss dropped their record down to 12-2. As for Colorado Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 13-2 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Kent Denver will take on DSST: Green Valley Ranch at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. DSST: Green Valley Ranch is on a five-game streak of home wins, Kent Denver a four-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. Colorado Academy on the road again on Thursday and play against The Academy at 7:00 p.m. on January 25th. Allowing an average of 52.9 points per game, The Academy has struggled on the defensive end, but that doesn't have to be the case in this contest.
