Carterville is 1-7 against Massac County since February of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Carterville Lions will head out on the road to challenge the Massac County Patriots at 5:00 p.m. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Carterville entered their tilt with Harrisburg with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. Carterville snuck past Harrisburg with a 49-44 win on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Massac County can now show off eight landslide victories after their most recent contest on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Herrin as Massac County made off with a 68-46 win. Massac County pushed the score to 57-33 by the end of the third, a deficit Herrin cut but never quite recovered from.
Massac County's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Isaac Hosman led the charge by dropping a double-double on 16 points and ten assists. Hosman has been hot recently, having posted 16 or more points the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Hunter Box, who scored 17 points along with five rebounds.
Carterville is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 15-11 record this season. As for Massac County, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 19-7.
Carterville opened the new year with a less-than-successful 56-48 defeat to Massac County. Can Carterville avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
