The Chattanooga Christian Chargers are taking a road trip to square off against the Marion County Warriors at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Chattanooga Christian is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.
Chattanooga Christian barely beat South Pittsburg the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Chattanooga Christian blew past South Pittsburg 7-1 on Friday. The Chargers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matches by six runs or more this season.
Noah Simerley tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit over 4.1 innings pitched. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024.
At the plate, Devin Dobson and Keegan Nieckula did most of the damage at the plate: Dobson went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI, while Nieckula went 1-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. That triple was Nieckula's first of the season.
The home team had won the previous two meetings between Marion County and Grundy County, and Marion County kept the tradition alive. Marion County sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-5 win over Grundy County on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Warriors have posted against the Yellowjackets since May 7, 2021.
Marion County let Jayden Calhoon and Eli Yell run wild. Calhoon went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI, while Yell scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Eli Blevins was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI.
Chattanooga Christian pushed their record up to 6-0 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Marion County, the victory got them back to even at 4-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Chattanooga Christian has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Marion County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Chattanooga Christian's way against Marion County in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Chattanooga Christian made off with an 8-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Chattanooga Christian since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
