Millwood capped off the Oklahoma High School Football season with a dramatic come from behind 21-20 victory over Vian in front of 8,500 fans at Broken Arrow Saturday to capture its first Class 2A title since 2002.
Gerald Jones struggled performing on the biggest stage he has seen all season, committing four of Millwood's five turnovers. Jones, a Tennessee commit, had two fumbles and threw two interceptions.
Vian got off to a fast start, using touchdown runs by Miguel Pratt and Tyren Samuels to build a 14-0 lead in the first quarter.
Millwood fought back, scoring 14 points of its own in the second quarter. Jones broke free on a 17-yard touchdown run to put the Falcons on the board. Prentice Washington scored from 2 yards later on to tie the score at 14 going into halftime.
Londrell Taylor turned one of the Jones turnovers into gold. Taylor picked off a Jones' pass in the third quarter and raced 65 yards to paydirt to give the Wolverines the lead. However, the point after was missed, leaving Vian with a 20-14 advantage.
Jones responded with a 2-yard touchdown run later on in the third quarter to put Millwood in front for good at 21-20. Jones rushed for 151 yards on 27 carries.
Vian quarterback Seth Sloan was relegated to a role mostly on defense after suffering a thumb injury. Vfastv Locust had 193 yards in the loss for Vian, who finished the campaign with a 14-1 record.
Millwood's only loss of the season was to Class 4A champion Bishop McGuinness, 31-26.
