Yukon took care of business in their home opener on Friday. They came out on top against the Putnam City Pirates by a score of 48-35. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Millers also won the last time the pair played back in August of 2024.
Yukon's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Wyatt Jones, who threw for 131 yards and four TDs on only 12 passes, and also rushed for 79 yards and one touchdown on only nine carries. The Millers' leading receiver Daniel Yebit was Jones' top target yet again, picking up 102 receiving yards and three scores.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Yukon was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 263 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Putnam City only rushed for 126 rushing yards.
Despite the loss, Putnam City still got an impressive performance from Schuylar Turnbull, who rushed for 105 yards and a pair of TDs, and also threw for 171 yards and a pair of touchdowns. The bulk of those rushing yards came from one huge play: a run that gained an incredible 53 yards. Putnam City's leading receiver Savion James was Turnbull's top target yet again, picking up 68 receiving yards and a pair of scores.
Coming up, Yukon will square off against Mustang at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Putnam City, they will take on Putnam City West at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
